“Kedartal” The Spiritual Trek To The Lake of Lord Shiva

Kedartal is a lake in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Situated at an elevation of about 4,750 meters (15,580 ft) above sea level in the Garhwal region of the Himalayas this glacial lake is popularly known as “lake of shiva”, Kedar Tal is one of the most beautiful lakes in Uttarakhand. Located at a distance of 18 km from Gangotri, the distant Kedar Tal in the Garhwal Himalayas is definitely an ideal place for adventurers and nature lovers. Nearby are the famous Mt. Bhrigupant, Mt. Thalaysagar, Manda Mountains, Mt. Jogin, and Mt. Gangotri which reflect the beauty of the rhythm with its peaks. The Kedarganga originates from Kedartal, a tributary of the Bhagirathi. Somewhere calm and serene, this river makes its way through huge boulders and rocks. It joins Bhagirathi near Gangotri and calls itself the full-grown Ganges. Quite spectacular and breathtakingly beautiful, the trek to Kedar Tal in Uttarakhand is a strenuous one.

About Kedartal Lake

Kedar Tal Lake is famous for its divine beauty in the mountain peaks 30 km from Gangotri, the supernatural lake in this high Himalayan region is a wonderful structure of nature. It is said that after drinking the poison emanating from the sea churning of Kedar Tal with pure blue water, Lord Shiva calmed the fierce flame of his throat by drinking the water of ‘Kedar Tal’.

Kedartal trek in Uttarakhand state is a bit difficult. Physically fit, high on endurance, and able to negotiate the terrain independently, experienced trekkers can do it with less difficulty. Best Time To Visit Kedartal Trek

May-June and September-October are the best months to go on this trek. During this time most of the snow is away. For the remaining months, the weather can be extremely cold.

You can reach the base cam easily by choosing the most comfortable option as per your budget.

Airport – The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, from which the distance of Kedartal is about 295 kilometers. From Jolly Grant Dehradun, you can easily go by taxi or car.

Railway Station- Nearest railway stations are Dehradun railway station. The distance from here to Kedartal is about 259 kilometers. From here you can easily go by taxi or car.

Road- Regular bus service is available from Delhi ISBT Kashmiri Gate which keeps government buses safe and you can trust them more than private buses. To reach Gangotri, you have to take a bus or cab.
