“Deoria Tal Trek” Experience The Breathtaking View of Mighty Himalayas

Deoria Tal is a delightful tourist destination situated at a distance of 49 km from Rudraprayag. It is an awesome lake encircled by rich green woodlands. The water of this lake reflects the clear image of the ranges of Chaukhamba with the peaks of Gangotri, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri, and Neelkanth. Located at an altitude of 2438 meters above sea level, this lake is located at a distance of 2 km from the Chopta-Tungnath road. Overnight camping and trekking are popular activities for visitors here. Trekkers usually begin the climb from Chopta, which connects Deoria Tal to the uphill trek and Tungnath and Chandrashila to the nearby trek. According to legends, the gods used to bathe in this lake, hence it is mentioned in the Puranas as ‘Indra Sarovar’. The sages believe that the ‘Yakshas’ who interrogated the Pandavas during their exile and who looked after the natural treasures and tree roots hidden in the earth, lived in this lake.

About Deoria Tal

The bowl-shaped Deoria Tal is 400 meters long and 700 meters wide. Wild animals like musk deer, bear, and hyena are found here in abundance. There is a smooth route to reach Ukhimath, Tehsil of district Chamoli by bus from Haridwar and Rishikesh to reach Deoria Tal. Ukhimath, which is the headquarters of the Kedarnath Temple Committee, becomes the residence of the Rawls and priests there when the Kedarnath temple closes at Sharda. It is here that worship programs are organized in the temples of Lakshmana, Mandhata, and Usha.

It is said about Deoria Tal that bathing in the Tal and worshiping it fulfills the desires. There are rest houses of the Public Works Department and Temple Committee for night rest. Trekkers are delighted to see the panoramic view of Chaukhamba peak shining like silver in the morning sun. The path from Deoria Tal to Tungnath Mahadev is an easy route to reach one of the Panch Kedar Temple (ancient temple of Lord Shiva). Here is also the production center of the research institute of the high-level plant work of Garhwal University. It will not be an exaggeration to see the natural view of snow-capped peaks etc. from Chandrashila to Bandarpoonch and Chaukhamba.

Best Time To Visit Deoria Tal Trek

The best time to visit Deoria Tal is from March to May and October to November. In winter, that is, in December – January, when the snowfall starts, the nights on the Deoria Tal are extremely cold and only appropriate if you are OK with living temperatures with temperatures below freezing point. Even June – July is hot when the sun is coming out, but the colors and nights are a bit cool though.

The monsoon season is generally not a fixed time period to visit due to landslides of Chopta – Tunganath – Chandrashila – Deoria Tal which is common in Garhwal.

In the winter season, you can easily see snowfall on the Deoriatal trek or around Deoriatal lake. So, if you want to have some fun playing in the snow, then go to the Deoriatal – Chopta area from January to March.

How To Reach Deoria Tal

When you plan a trip to Lake Deoriatal we should pay attention to the different modes of travel to choose from.

Deoriatal by Air

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Bhaniyawala, Dehradun, 21 km from Rishikesh. After reaching Rishikesh, you only need to travel the rest by road. Chopta is about 166 km by road from Rishikesh.

The nearest railway station is at Rishikesh. After reaching Rishikesh, you only need to travel the rest by road. Chopta is about 166 km by road from Rishikesh.

Deoriatal by Road

Please note that you can only visit Sari village, which is the base village of the Deoria Tal trek. After reaching Sari village, you will have to trek the remaining 2 km to reach the lake. You can do this trek very early without any guide. There is a well-paved track at the top.
