Bhimtal is a town in the Nainital district of the state of Uttarakhand. It is at an altitude of 1370 meters. History of Bhimtal

The name of Bhimtal is derived from the famous mythological character ‘Bhima’. When Bhima was in exile he visited the banks of this wonderful mountain lake. During his visit, he got the Bhimeshwar Mahadev temple constructed.



Apart from mythology, the place gained prominence during the rule of the Chand dynasty in the 17th century. This picturesque place had prominence during the British rule. Once, this place served as a connecting route between India and Nepal. History holds a special chapter for this beautiful place.
